ETF Trading

Does anybody have ETFs in Omni for their plans?  If so, do you only do the daily trading (like mutual funds) or do you allow intra-day trading?  Intraday seems like it would be a nightmare and not sure it would even work.

  1. Joey,
At TIAA we do not offer ETF’s. At my prior employer we inquired with Mid-Atlantic regarding ETF’s. This was circa 2017-2019 so it has been a while and things may have changed. What I recall was that they offered the ability to trade iShares ETF’s but there was no intra day trading. The order you sent would get the closing NAV. I also seem to recall there was some preliminary estimating of the dollars you expected to trade in the ETF’s and that was owed maybe an hour or two before market close. About the only benefit that we could see to ETF’s was a lower expense ratio since the intraday trading was not available. We ended up not making ETF’s available. The sponsor or advisor selected a low expense index mutual fund instead. If you work with Mid-Atlantic already, contact them. If not, perhaps Thea and Mike at SGN could direct you to someone at Mid-Atlantic.
    Thanks, Jason Susko
